Grim Milestone

 I am pretty confident that if Trump were still president, there would be wall-to-wall headlines:

"US Passes Grim Milestone As Deaths From Covid-19 Exceed 800 Thousand"

There hasn't been much note of it in news, though--probably because there is no credible way of blaming a Republican.  The closest I could find was:

US set to pass 800,000 COVID-19 deaths by late December

Deaths in 2021 greater than in 2020

The article is from November 22nd and some monitoring sites say we hit 800 Thousand by the 27th.

The JH data the article relied upon, has the number at 782,100 as of today (Dec 2nd)  The CDC has data ending up to the week ending on November 13th as 768,204, which are deaths which give Covid as the cause of death on the death certificate.  They have excess deaths at 890,990 as of November 2021.  Of course, some of these could be from undiagnosed cases or deaths indirectly caused by the pandemic, like suicide.
