Shannon Starmer

 This gave me a laugh!

Shannon really doesn't like me and she's got one hell of a work-ethic.  She systematically combed through a long Twitter argument from yesterday and liked, quite possibly all, of the critical responses.

Brava, Shannon!

You made my morning just a bit more amusing than normal.

Great Moments in Reading Comprehension

What is the motive for people to defend this kind of thing?  I can understand putting up with minor irritants, but who actually likes them?

Here's the vibe I get from this kind of pushback:

Me:  I don't want a shit sandwich.
Them:  There's only a tiny bit of shit in that sandwich.  There's so little there, it isn't fair to call it a shit sandwich.  It's mostly non-shit.
Me: Any amount of shit in a sandwich makes it a shit sandwich.
Them:  Just eat the sandwich.  It's better than being entirely shit.
Me:  Why should there be any shit in my sandwich?  What's wrong with you people?

Added:  In the spirit of being, not just a complainer, but offering solutions.  How about a sign on the dispenser, "Compostable Paper Hand Towels"  and on the compost receptacle, Compostable Paper Towels only".  Also, have a trash receptacle labeled, "Trash".  See, it's possible to inform, without lecturing.

Who Is Raquel Evita Saraswati?

"Leftist Group Rocked by Revelation That Its ‘Queer, Muslim, Multiethnic’ Equity Chief Is Really A White Lady"

I honestly thought the above headline was from the satire site, The Babylon Bee.

"Raquel Evita Seidel, 20, of Brookline, said she and her girlfriend, Anh Dao Kolbe, have been together nine months. While they are confident they want to marry, they also want to take the time to plan something that respects Seidel’s Arab and Latin traditions and 33-year-old Kolbe’s Vietnamese traditions. “We want it to be something special, not about hype and not about media,” Seidel said."

Arab and Latin traditions?

"Saraswati, according to The Intercept, “for years has encouraged people to believe that she is a woman of color, including Latina as well as of South Asian and Arab descent.” But Raquel/Rachel’s mom, Carol Perone, was unequivocal: “I call her Rachel. I don’t know why she’s doing what she’s doing.” Perone added: “I’m German and British, and her father was Calabrese Italian."
