A really important thing to do, if you want to avoid looking like a hypocritical idiot: If some person you don't like does something you think is bad, before you publicly rage about it, check to see if somebody you like did the exact same thing.
Okay, lets say you were lazy and did the raging without the checking and then somebody points out how a person you like did the same thing. Now what?
No matter what, you're already looking like an idiot for not doing your homework. You can either ignore the new information and confirm that you're a hypocrite, or and stay with me on this:
You could deal with the new information by:
- showing how the situations differ, or
- admitting that they're both bad, or
- admitting that maybe you were too quick to judge and neither are all that bad
You will probably not enjoy this, but you'll look like a fair-minded person and not like a hack.
