Leave it to the professionals

 

We saw this on the way back from enjoying Independence Day with some friends up in NH.

I muttered to my wife, "I identify as a professional".  Continuing, "Yep, I took the on-line course".  Said in my best backwoods hick impression.  "There was only one lesson:  Light fuse, get away!  Just that one lesson, over and over again:  Light fuse, get away!  Light fuse, get away!"

Later that evening, in Massachusetts, as blasts and reports echoed about all evening, I figured all of us took the course.  Or at least identify as professionals.

I Love My Garmin

 For things like keeping time when I run and figuring out things like VO2max, it's great!

But for distance, I trust it not.  Here's why. Take a look at what it thought I ran today:

 

Here's what my mapping app says I ran:

True, the mapping app has me running in the middle of the road, but that's only about 10 feet from where I really ran.  The Garmin app has me sometimes 50-100 feet off the road and constantly has me cutting corners in a way which would necessitate passing, like some kind of shade, through buildings.

Digits sometimes stumps me but most of the time it's gotten so easy that I'm trying to see the whole solution before I start and then getting to the answer in a round-about way.  Example:

Normally, I would do the 19 X 23 first and then do the small numbers that get me from 437 to 456.  Reversing the order adds a bit of a challenge.
