48 Hours
In my early undergraduate days, some student group wanted to raise money, so they sponsored a showing of 48 Hours in one of the larger lecture halls at WSU, Todd Hall.
It was going to be fairly inexpensive, so a couple of buddies and I decided to go. When we got to the box office, it was chaotic and we could see that most of the seats were taken, so it might be hard to sit together so we thought the balcony might be a better shot. We'd all been to lectures there and therefore knew about the balcony. Nobody was up there on the 2nd floor landing, so we tried the door to the auditorium, thinking a ticket-taker might be inside, but nobody was around. We made an on-the-spot decision to just go in and sit.
We waited a bit and were a bit tense that we might get caught. Once the movie started, we thought we were home free and then the door opened and standing there, was a campus police officer. We kind of nodded at him and then he came and sat down right next to us!
I don't know what the other guys were thinking and sure didn't want to compare notes with a cop sitting right next to me, but I was wondering why it never dawned on him that we snuck-in without paying. There was clearly no ticket-taker around. Eventually it dawned on me, that the cop was scamming just as hard as we were.
All-in-all a great movie, made better by the frisson of the situation.
